In Europe´s longest urban motorway tunnel Södra Lånken in Sweden, tunnel cleaners face toughest conditions: Over 100,000 cars per day are passing and jamming the tunnel, polluting its bright concrete walls with exhaust gases and sooty particles. This reduced brightness of the walls is an impairment to road safety. An effective sealing of surfaces that reduces pollutions is putting things right here.
With its NanoGuard® product, Nanogate AG has developed a surface cleaning whose high efficiency could also be proven in the Swedish urban motorway tunnel Södra Lånken. After the appliance of the new coating, expenses for the ongoing cleaning fell by more than 50 %, as a first analysis has shown. So, the costly and time-intensive basic cleaning can be omitted in the future and the environmental burden through dust, exhaust gas, soot and aggressive cleaning residues will be substantially reduced. NanoGuard® seals and refines mineral surfaces such as concrete. Owing to chemical nanotechnology, dirt adhesion can be substantially lessened. Cleaning procedures can be made much easier and more compatible to the environment. Treated surfaces are sustainedly protected against damaging environmental impacts and will, therefore, keep their value.
The cooperation with Nanogate and the successes achieved by NanoGuard® had convinced the Swedish authorities, and resulted in a prestigious follow-up project: The Saarland company contributed to the refinement of the House of Sweden, the Swedish embassy in Washington. Here, NanoGuard® was for the first time also used as a surface sealer on natural stone.
Not only the location is prestigious, but also the building itself. In 2007, the House of Sweden was awarded with the Kasper Salin Prize, which is the most important architectural award in Sweden.
