Saarbrücken / Seoul, August 2008
Nanotechnology from Saarland is meanwhile making quite a name for itself outside of Germany. Excellent contacts to first addresses in research and industry have been established in particular with Korea, one of the most industrialized countries in Asia - actively supported by initiatives such as "Saarland Empowering Nano". From August 23-28, a delegation from Saarland has visited the Korean capital of Seoul.
High-value Industrial Contacts
The tight agenda mainly comprised a joint presence at the Nano Korea, the most important nano trade fair in Asia, as well as numerous multi- and bilateral meetings with R&D responsibles from Korean industrial holdings in the automotive, microelectronics, chemical and cosmetic sectors.
Workshop with KRICT
A workshop hosted by KRICT Korean Institute of Research Technology was conducted on August 25, with the INM presenting findings of its materials research and Saarland nanotech companies such as Sarastro GmbH and Nano-X visualizing application-oriented nano solutions. In addition, there was a scientific exchange with scientists of the renowned Korean institute about opportunities to optimize and functionalize the most different kinds of surfaces and materials by means of nanotechnology.
Workshop with KIST
The last day of the mission was dedicated to a workshop with the Korean Institute of Technology. During the workshop, the representatives of the Saarland nano scene could discuss with researchers of the state-owned Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) on the state of nanotechnological research. About 100 representatives from Korea´s commercial, industrial and political life participated at the workshop. The cooperation with KIST has been existing for many years already. KIST Europe, the only KIST subsidiary outside Korea, was established on the Saarbrücken campus of the Saarland University.
