Today, Saarland´s Minister of Economics and Science Joachim Rippel has started the Logistics Initiative Saarland which bundles the Saarland´s expertise in this field and shall sustainably and successfully develop and promote the logistics hub Saarland.
On their booth, the two SHS subsidiaries present the logistics location Saarland as well as their latest projects: The Masterplan Industrieflächen Saarland provides for the development of six new industrial areas, among them highly attractive locations for the logistics branch, thus ensuring the long-term development of optimal sites. Moreover, the team presents the most topical version of the site information system Saarland, GEWISS. This interactive portal shows all commercial and industrial sites in Saarland, informs about their availability, and illustrates the surroundings and infrastructure of the sites.
What makes Saarland attractive for the logistics branch? Presently, more than 6000 people in Saarland are already working in this sector. Strong brands, high R&D competence and excellent sites are features of the logistics location Saarland. Important players such as Dachser, Schenker Deutschland AG / Anterist + Schnieder or TNT stand for an outstanding service structure. The expertise of research institutes such as the DFKI or IPL Institute for Production and Logistics Systems, ensures the competitiveness of the location.
For Thomas Schuck, CEO of gwSaar, “one essential reason for Saarland´s attractiveness is the region´s geographical position”. The political and infrastructural ties to all neighboring countries are very good. “Comprehensive expansions in the logistics sector are planned, further sites and areas are just being qualified for the logistics branch by gwSaar. Thus, it is ensured that this innovative sector can gain momentum in the future, too.
The slogan Saarland – Customized Locations“ was literally realized on the booth. Models in custom-made clothes with prints of the latest developments presented them on a catwalk regularly. There are no conventional flyers, instead, cut goods with printed information, cut for takeaway by interested persons.
