The Ford plant in Saarlouis which, only recently, has launched the production of the new Ford Focus, will also produce the Ford Focus Electric from 2012 on. Additionally, the next generation of the Ford Focus following the present model will also be built in Saarland.
Only shortly after the successful market introduction of the new Focus, Ford announced that also the coming model generation of the Focus will be assembled in Saarlouis. Another positive news: The production of the Ford Focus Electric, a fully electric model variant, which shall be launched next year, shall also take place in Saarlouis.
Both decisions in favor of Saarland make an integral part of a growth plan to strengthen the competitiveness of the German Ford plants. In addition to this, Ford announced that 20 completely new or significantly changed car models should be introduced in Europe in the next three years. Details were not given.
In Germany, Ford has 24,000 employed and holds a market share of 7.2 % . European-wide, Ford is the second largest car producer after VW. In Saarland, the company employs 6500 persons and is, thus, the biggest employer in the region. Work is done in three shifts.
